In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the potential acquisition of two adjacent parcels of land located at 914 and 918 North Kentucky Avenue, currently owned by Gospel Inc. The properties, totaling approximately 13,498 square feet, include two historic houses—one built in 1901 and the other in 1925. Both structures are currently unoccupied and could be considered for relocation or redevelopment.
The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is proposing to purchase the properties for $180,000, with plans to cover title, survey, and closing costs. The closing date is anticipated to be on or before November 15, pending board and commission approvals. The CRA aims to explore various redevelopment options, including retail office spaces with residential units above, or mixed-use developments.
During the meeting, officials raised questions about the feasibility of moving the historic homes to another location within the CRA's jurisdiction, particularly in Midtown. The discussion highlighted the need to assess the structural integrity of the houses before any relocation efforts could be considered. If deemed structurally sound, there may be opportunities to repurpose the homes, potentially aiding local nonprofits focused on housing solutions for the homeless.
The CRA emphasized its commitment to preserving historic structures while also addressing community needs. Officials noted that any future plans would require a public Request for Proposals (RFP) process, ensuring transparency and community involvement in the decision-making process.
As the CRA moves forward with the acquisition, the focus will remain on evaluating the properties' condition and exploring innovative uses that align with community goals, balancing development with preservation.
