During a recent government meeting, the board approved the purchase of two properties behind Roseburg High School, totaling $799,000. The properties include 364 West Selmar Court and 642 West Findlay Avenue. The motion to acquire these properties was unanimously supported by board members.
Following the property discussion, the meeting opened to public comments, allowing attendees two minutes each to address the board. Janae Trimble, the chapter chair of Moms for Liberty, was the sole speaker. She highlighted her organization’s ongoing legal efforts against recent Title IX changes, which took effect on August 1. Trimble noted that Moms for Liberty, alongside other groups, has filed a lawsuit and received an injunction from a Kansas judge, which currently exempts certain schools from the new Title IX regulations.
Trimble explained that the injunction means that schools receiving public funding may not be held accountable for Title IX complaints if they are part of a specific list provided to the court. She reported that eight schools in the Roseburg School District are currently included in this exemption, with a total of 22 schools in Douglas County participating.
The meeting concluded with a reminder of the next board meeting scheduled for September 11 at Fullerton 4 Elementary School, where board members will reconvene to discuss further matters.
