In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the significant growth in the community and its impact on local infrastructure, particularly the road system. The meeting highlighted the necessity for new infrastructure and commercial buildings to accommodate the increasing population and economic activity.
Officials noted that residential permitting has shown stable growth, but this expansion has led to considerable strain on existing infrastructure. Traffic maps presented during the meeting revealed alarming increases in road usage, with some areas experiencing traffic growth of over 50% in just five years. Key routes, including I-95, were identified as particularly affected, prompting urgent calls for infrastructure improvements.
To address these challenges, the county has planned substantial investments in infrastructure from 2019 to 2024. This includes approximately $500 million allocated for highway improvements and new road construction, alongside $250 million for interchange enhancements. Additionally, $128 million is earmarked for bridge replacements, and $240 million is set aside for the construction of roundabouts, which are expected to improve traffic flow.
The meeting underscored the importance of proactive planning and investment to ensure that infrastructure keeps pace with community growth, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration among public works and local government to manage the increasing demands on the road system.
