During a recent school board meeting, Rosemarie Faranda, a concerned parent, voiced serious concerns regarding the safety and educational quality for students within the Educational Support Services (ESS) department. Faranda, known as Axel's mother, highlighted her son’s struggles, including being a victim of assaults and the inadequate implementation of his Individualized Education Program (IEP) over the past year. She criticized the current ESS director, Lindsay Slover, for insufficient staffing in structured learning classrooms, which she argued has created unsafe conditions for students.
Faranda emphasized that educators deserve better support and resources throughout the academic year, rather than being left to manage underprepared circumstances. She expressed gratitude towards specific staff members, including Dr. Hassan and the ESS team at Saddleback, for their efforts despite the challenges they face.
Following Faranda's remarks, the board moved on to routine agenda items, including the approval of the consent agenda and a discussion on the personnel schedule. Board members expressed appreciation for timely responses to their inquiries regarding the HR schedule, particularly concerning the certification of non-CDL drivers who transport students. The meeting underscored ongoing efforts to address staffing and operational issues within the district, while also highlighting the critical need for improved communication and support for both students and educators.
