During a recent government meeting, community concerns were raised regarding a proposed four-story building at 229 Waverly Avenue, adjacent to a historic carriage house block. Pam Fleming, a local resident and owner of the property at 237 Waverly Avenue, expressed her apprehensions about the building's height and its impact on the neighborhood's character.
Fleming highlighted that despite some modifications made to the original design, the new structure, which includes a seven to eight-foot bulkhead, remains excessively tall for the area. She emphasized that while the building may not be directly visible from the front, it looms over the surrounding properties, disrupting the aesthetic of a block predominantly characterized by two to three-story carriage houses.
The discussion reflects ongoing tensions between development and preservation in the community, as residents advocate for maintaining the historical integrity of their neighborhood amidst new construction projects.
