Volusia County has recently launched a new emergency management app, which proved effective during its first test with Tropical Storm Debbie. The app, designed to keep residents and visitors informed, successfully disseminated critical information, including sandbag locations, through notifications. Users can customize their notification preferences, allowing them to opt out of non-emergency alerts while staying updated on significant weather events.

In addition to the app's launch, the Volusia County Council announced a significant policy change: starting October 1, beach driving fees will be waived for county residents. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility for locals, including students from nearby colleges. However, residents must register their vehicles to obtain a residential pass, with further details on the registration process to be shared soon.

Moreover, the council confirmed that residents will continue to enjoy free off-beach parking, while non-residents will incur fees. The same vendor will manage both beach driving and off-beach parking registrations, streamlining the process for residents.

To assist with the new regulations, the county will provide a 24/7 phone line and establish two office locations for in-person support. These developments reflect the county's commitment to improving services and accessibility for its residents.
