In a recent government meeting, officials highlighted significant progress on the installation of a new playground, showcasing the efforts of the Department of Public Works. Over the past two weeks, the team undertook the project themselves, opting to use dump trucks for mulch delivery rather than hiring an outside contractor, resulting in savings of approximately $1,000. Additionally, the department managed to save around $2,000 by handling the installation of edging independently.
The project includes the pouring of a concrete pad for a picnic shelter and the installation of picnic tables. Currently, the team is finalizing grading work to ensure ongoing access for maintenance equipment, as mulch will need to be replenished over time.
The arrival of new swing sets and picnic tables is anticipated by the end of July. Funding for these items was secured through community support and a grant from the Dominion Energy Foundation, which enabled the purchase of new swing sets rather than repurposing existing materials. Officials expressed satisfaction with the project, emphasizing its importance for the community's children.
