The Altadena Town Council held a meeting highlighting several community events and initiatives, including the upcoming Juneteenth celebration at Farnsworth Park. Scheduled for tomorrow from noon to 1:30 PM, the event will feature lunch and the awarding of scholarships to two high school students in honor of Ellen Garrison, a notable teacher and activist. A film titled \"Ellen Garrison: Scenes from an Activist's Life\" will also be screened, celebrating her contributions to the community.
In addition to the Juneteenth festivities, the council announced a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Webster's Pharmacy on June 22, from 12 to 2 PM, marking its relocation to 2333 Lake Avenue. Furthermore, a workshop on gravestone preservation will take place on June 26, hosted by Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery, featuring expert Jonathan Appel.
The meeting also addressed the Owen Brown committee's progress in preserving the gravesite land, which is set to be designated as an LA County landmark during a public hearing on July 28. The committee expressed gratitude to outgoing member Diane Markison for her years of service and welcomed Council Member O'Malley as her successor.
Public Works provided updates on traffic safety improvements at the intersections of New York Drive and Altadena Drive, responding to community concerns raised last year. The council encouraged public participation in these ongoing safety evaluations.
