During a recent government meeting, community leader Danny Sanders provided an enthusiastic report on the success of the Altadena Pride event, which took place earlier this month. Sanders, who has been an organizing lead for Altadena Pride since 2023, highlighted the significant turnout and community engagement surrounding the festivities.
The event kicked off with an opening ceremony at the Altadena Library, attracting over 300 attendees, including local dignitaries such as Supervisor Barger and Senator Portentino. Sanders noted that the event's Facebook page garnered over 5,000 visitors, a testament to the outreach efforts led by newly elected Council Member Isis.
Following the ceremony, participants engaged in a pride walkabout, which included stops at notable local sites like the Altadena Baptist Church and Grocery Outlet. The march concluded with a group photo in front of a mural, showcasing the vibrant community spirit.
In addition to the walk, the event featured a gathering at Triangle Park, where 450 free meals were served, thanks to collaboration with 60 local businesses and organizations. The Altadena Senior Center also played a pivotal role, welcoming over 500 community members of all ages who enjoyed live performances, refreshments, and access to health resources.
Sanders emphasized the importance of community involvement, noting that educational discussions attracted over 100 attendees. He concluded his remarks by encouraging residents to pick up free pride flags available at Webster's Pharmacy, further promoting inclusivity and community pride.
The meeting underscored the significance of local events in fostering community connections and celebrating diversity, with Sanders expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support received from both residents and local businesses.
