City approves major funding for new airport control tower

In a recent city council meeting, officials approved a significant ordinance authorizing the construction of a new airport control tower at the Jefferson City Memorial Airport. The project, which is primarily funded by grants, has a total estimated cost of approximately $7.1 million, with the city contributing about $355,000 from its capital improvement sales tax. The new tower will be relocated to the south side of the airport, enhancing operational efficiency.

The council also discussed the replatting of lots in the Edwards Ridge subdivision, which will consolidate three residential lots into one to simplify the extension of sanitary sewer services. This decision aims to reduce costs associated with the development.

Additionally, an updated agreement with Cole County was approved, outlining procedures for joint city and county capital improvement projects. This agreement includes a shared cost of $11 million for various infrastructure projects, including the reconstruction of Monroe Street and the design of the High Street viaduct.

A development agreement with Pharr JC Holdings LLC was also on the agenda, which will facilitate residential development contingent upon the successful extension of Wildwood. The agreement allows the city to access material from the land for ongoing projects, providing significant cost savings.

Lastly, the council reaffirmed its finance disclosure policy and conflict of interest ordinances, fulfilling state requirements without any changes to existing regulations. The meeting concluded with discussions on future projects and the importance of collaboration between city and county officials to enhance community development.
