Community rallies to fund special needs park initiative

During a recent government meeting, discussions centered around community enhancements at the bog, particularly the transformation of tennis courts into pickleball courts, a sport that has seen a surge in popularity.

Officials highlighted plans for a new special needs park at the site, which will cater to children with disabilities, including those in wheelchairs and those with conditions such as Down syndrome and autism. This initiative is linked to the existing Challenger baseball program, which supports special needs children.

The community has rallied support for this project, raising over $300,000 through voluntary donations. A recent fundraising event, a purse bingo held at Genetis, attracted over 300 attendees and is expected to contribute significantly to the fundraising efforts, with last year's event raising $24,000 in just one day. The committee is currently awaiting final figures from the latest event and anticipates further donations to support the park's development.
