During a recent government meeting, the Park County Housing Coalition program manager highlighted the organization's upcoming initiatives aimed at promoting accessory dwelling units (ADUs) as a strategy to enhance community housing and support downtown development goals.
The program manager noted that there is currently a restriction on ADUs within the Urban Renewal District (URD) and the central business district, which poses challenges for potential development. However, the coalition is set to launch several ADU programs, including a free tour scheduled for September 11 in Livingston, starting at the farmer's market. This event aims to familiarize community members with ADUs and their benefits.
Additionally, a workshop is planned for 23 to 24 community members, primarily from Livingston, to guide them through the design and construction process of ADUs. The program manager expressed hope that insights gained from participants and those who have previously built ADUs will inform future support mechanisms, such as grants or low-interest loan programs, to facilitate the creation of these units.
The coalition anticipates concluding its programming by December, at which point it will have more data on community needs and potential funding opportunities. The program manager also raised a question regarding the effectiveness of ADU investments in increasing the taxable value of the district, suggesting a need for further discussion with the Urban Renewal Agency (URA) board in the future.
