As the Fourth of July approaches, local officials are finalizing preparations for the holiday celebrations, including a parade and various community events. Mayor and Chief Hunter reported a successful fundraiser for St. Francis High School's football team, which took place over the weekend, contributing to the festive spirit leading into the holiday week.
Chief Hunter confirmed that the police department is ready for the upcoming parade, with operations already in place and an honor guard collaborating with the fire department. The department has also raised over $13,000 year-to-date for National Night Out, with expectations for that number to grow.
In light of increased holiday traffic, law enforcement agencies, including St. Francis, Cudahy, South Milwaukee, and the sheriff's department, will be conducting OWI enforcement from July 3rd to July 7th. Additionally, the state patrol is set to participate in a speed awareness initiative on July 31, following last year's involvement with 115 law enforcement agencies.
Preparations are also underway for the Republican National Convention (RNC), with officials engaged in extensive communication to ensure a smooth experience for the community. Chief Hunter reassured that there are no specific concerns for St. Francis regarding the event, as activities will primarily be concentrated downtown.
The civic association is facing some challenges in its inaugural year but is optimistic, with over 30 units confirmed for the parade and plans for radio promotions. Two bands are scheduled to perform, and attendees can look forward to receiving flags during the festivities.
