In a recent government meeting, the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council presented their case for a tax exemption on their property located at 211 Pilgrim Cove Road in McCall. The hearing, which lasted approximately 60 minutes, aimed to address the denial of the tax exemption due to ownership discrepancies.
Sarah Berry, representing the Girl Scouts, explained that the organization has owned the property for decades, but complications arose from a merger in the 1960s that left the title still registered under the Boise Girl Scouts. To resolve this, the Girl Scouts have initiated a quiet title action in Valley County, which is expected to take one to two months to complete. Berry requested the board to reverse the previous denial of the tax exemption and allow time for the title transfer process to finalize.
The assessor's office supported the Girl Scouts' request, recommending a partial exemption that would classify 299 days of use as exempt and 66 days as commercial. The board discussed the assessed values based on these classifications, with the total assessed value for the property calculated at approximately $2 million.
After deliberation, the board unanimously voted to reverse the denial and approve the partial exemption, allowing the Girl Scouts to move forward with their operations while the title issue is resolved. A formal notification of the decision will be sent by July 8. The meeting concluded with a brief acknowledgment of the collaborative efforts between the Girl Scouts and the assessor's office in reaching this resolution.
