In a recent assembly meeting, members unanimously approved Ordinance 2024-21, marking a significant step in local governance. The motion passed with a 6-0 vote, reflecting a strong consensus among assembly members.

Following this, the assembly discussed the potential vacation of Neva Street, an undeveloped right-of-way located between Edgecumbe Drive and Davidoff Street. Planning and Community Development Director Amy Ainsley presented the case, noting that the street, measuring approximately 340 feet long and 60 feet wide, is currently home to a private driveway but lacks development potential for city utilities.

City staff determined that while Neva Street is unsuitable for water or wastewater utilities, it could serve as a corridor for future electric or telecommunications infrastructure. To accommodate this, the proposal includes reserving a 20-foot-wide easement in the center of the area, allowing for potential utility development while opening the remaining land for possible future development.

Ainsley confirmed that emergency services would still have adequate access post-vacation, and all adjacent property owners have expressed support for the request. The planning commission also unanimously recommended the vacation earlier this month.

The assembly's decision will guide the next steps, including the creation of a survey for the area and the drafting of a sales ordinance for two readings. The assembly has discretion over the sale price for the vacated land, with options ranging from established values provided by the assessor to the possibility of a fair market appraisal. The assembly is expected to deliberate further on the pricing structure in upcoming meetings.
