In a recent government meeting, officials announced the allocation of $726,000 to Clean and Prosperous Washington for the development of an electric charging station at the Des Moines Marina. This initiative aims to enhance the marina's infrastructure, making it accessible for both marine and shore-side vessels, independent of ferry services.
Additionally, a $100,000 grant from the legislature will ensure that the charging station is equipped to support electric vessels, broadening its usability beyond just ferry operations. The project is designed to electrify the marina, facilitating charging for various electric vessels, including potential future services from King County Metro.
The meeting also highlighted a car share grant awarded to Pacific Mobility, which will complement the marina's electrification efforts. This initiative will provide charging options for both vehicles and boats, functioning similarly to a gas station where any electric vessel can access the facilities.
Officials emphasized the importance of measuring the economic impacts of the ferry service alongside these developments, indicating a comprehensive approach to enhancing transportation options in the region.
