In a recent government meeting, Frank Ticknor, Deputy Director of Public Works, provided an update on the aftermath of a severe storm that impacted the region. He reported extensive damage, including downed trees and power outages affecting traffic signals and public buildings. Ticknor noted that staff have been actively assessing the situation, with many intersections experiencing outages, particularly along Highway 36, which is managed by MnDOT.
Power restoration efforts are underway, with coordination between the county and MnDOT to address the traffic signal issues. While some public buildings, such as the Park Grove and Lake Elmo Libraries, experienced outages, most service centers remained operational. Ticknor emphasized the need for utility company Excel to assist in restoring power to affected areas.
The meeting also included a brief public comment period, which yielded no responses, followed by the approval of a consent calendar consisting of items A through I. The motion to approve was passed unanimously by the commissioners.
Carly Schuman from the Washington County Community Development Agency was introduced next, indicating a transition to discussions regarding community development initiatives. The meeting highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by the storm while also addressing routine governmental business.
