During a recent government meeting, community concerns regarding local infrastructure and property maintenance took center stage. Gloria Collinger, representing a group of residents, expressed gratitude for the borough's responsiveness to their concerns about a proposed cell phone tower on a 17-acre site owned by the school board. Collinger highlighted that TowerCo has withdrawn all applications for the tower, a decision welcomed by the community, which had gathered over 160 signatures opposing the construction. She urged the borough to keep residents informed should any future applications arise for the site.
Following Collinger, Leo Stanton raised issues about two vacant homes on Walton Street, which he described as potential havens for vagrancy due to their neglected state. He called for action to pressure the owners to maintain the properties, emphasizing the need for community safety and aesthetic improvement. Stanton noted that one of the homes had recently been remodeled but was surrounded by overgrown weeds, while the other, an old store, remained in deplorable condition. He requested that the borough's code enforcement take action on these properties, particularly referencing a previously red-tagged store that was either to be repaired or demolished.
The discussions underscored the community's proactive stance on local issues and the importance of maintaining open communication between residents and government officials.
