During a recent government meeting, John Hart shared his experience participating in the Leadville 100, a prestigious 100-mile race in Colorado, which he completed in just over 26 hours. Hart, who finished 116th overall and 6th in his age group of 50 to 59, highlighted the significance of the event, noting that it attracted 750 participants, with approximately 400 finishing the grueling challenge.
Hart expressed his satisfaction with his performance, particularly given the race's high altitude, as much of it takes place above 10,000 feet. He credited his extensive preparation, which included spending two weeks training in Colorado, for his successful outcome. The race, now in its 41st year, is considered one of the top ultra-marathons in North America.
Despite the physical toll of the race, Hart returned healthy and in good spirits, reflecting on the challenges of running in the dark during the final miles. He humorously acknowledged his wife's suggestion that this might be his last race, but indicated he may continue participating in future events, having completed 11 ultra-marathons to date. The meeting concluded with congratulations from fellow attendees, recognizing Hart's dedication and achievement in the demanding sport.
