In a recent government meeting, significant developments were discussed regarding infrastructure improvements and policy updates within the district.
One of the key highlights was the approval of a change order for a parking lot project, which faced delays due to unexpected poor soil conditions. The board unanimously approved an additional $361,104.70 to ensure the project was completed correctly before the school year commenced, addressing concerns about the longevity of the parking lot.
The meeting also covered the introduction of 11 new policies, prompted by legislative changes from the previous spring. These policies, which have already been implemented, will be reviewed further in a committee meeting scheduled for September 4, with a follow-up discussion planned for the board meeting on September 17.
Additionally, a change order for the classroom camera project was approved, amounting to $200,410, funded through ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funds. This change was necessary to upgrade older analog cameras to a digital system across the district, enhancing security measures in schools.
The board also discussed plans for the West Monroe High School tennis courts, proposing the addition of new courts and resurfacing existing ones, along with the installation of lighting. Jesse Simpson was recommended as the engineer for this project, which received unanimous support from the board.
Lastly, the board granted permission to bid on three items, including copy paper and intercom system replacements at two schools, addressing safety and security concerns. The intercom upgrades will also include new speakers in kitchens across the district.
As the meeting concluded, members were reminded of the upcoming football season kickoff, highlighting the involvement of various support groups within the community.
