In a recent government meeting, officials highlighted the success and expansion of health hubs and family resource centers designed to support families in the community. These centers, strategically located within schools, aim to provide a comprehensive range of services, including primary medical care, dental care, vision screenings, and mental health support, all in one accessible location.
The initiative, which began implementation at several schools including Central Durfee and East Phoenix Village, has proven particularly beneficial for larger families. Data presented indicated that 55% of the families served had three to five children, underscoring the demand for consolidated services. From August 1, 2023, to June 7, 2024, nearly 3,000 families utilized the health hubs, with an impressive 89% of participants recommending the services to others.
Awareness of the health hubs primarily comes from school staff, with 68% of families reporting they learned about the services through these channels. This highlights the importance of ongoing staff training and communication to ensure families are informed about available resources.
The family resource centers also play a crucial role, providing essential goods such as food and hygiene products. Data revealed that cereal was the most requested food item, alongside personal care items like soap and dental hygiene products. This indicates a significant need for basic necessities among families in the area, which the centers are actively addressing.
As the program continues to expand, officials are optimistic about its potential to further support families and improve community health outcomes.
