During a recent government meeting, the focus was on the successful graduation ceremony held on May 11th, where approximately 460 degrees were conferred, with around 220 students attending the event. The ceremony was marked by inspirational remarks from attendees Chrissy Clary and Mike Wilde, celebrating the achievements of the graduates.
One standout story shared was that of Rafia Timothy, an immigrant from Nigeria who initially came to the United States in 2019 to work at the Sagamore. Rafia's journey took a turn as she shifted her career aspirations from hospitality to accounting after enrolling in the college's program. Her dedication and utilization of campus support services, including the math and writing labs, played a crucial role in her academic success. Rafia was recognized as a New York State All-Academic Team award winner for Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society.
Having earned her degree, Rafia is set to continue her education at Siena College on scholarship, with plans to pursue a CPA certification. Her story exemplifies the transformative impact of educational support and the diverse paths students take in their academic journeys.
