The proposed project is estimated at $39 million, with the OFCC committing to co-fund approximately $25.3 million. However, Buskirk highlighted significant discrepancies in cost estimates, noting that the OFCC's construction cost of $375 per square foot is unrealistic compared to the industry standard of $425 per square foot.

Buskirk emphasized the need for a comprehensive high school that accommodates all grades, contrary to OFCC's recommendation to limit the new facility to grades ten through twelve. This decision is driven by a desire to better serve the community's educational needs and ensure adequate space for all students.

To finance the project without raising local taxes, the district plans to implement a 3.49 mill levy, which is expected to generate $36 million. This funding will provide flexibility during the design phase, allowing for potential enhancements to common areas as the school population grows.

Additionally, Buskirk announced a series of informational meetings aimed at educating the community about the bond issue and its implications. These sessions will clarify the financing process and address any concerns regarding the impact on local taxes. Board members are encouraged to attend these meetings, provided they adhere to public meeting regulations.

The superintendent also touched on the broader implications of property tax increases, explaining that while they may provide immediate funding benefits, they can ultimately affect state funding allocations for schools. The district is committed to transparency and community engagement as it moves forward with this significant project.
