Community rallies to combat child trafficking crisis

In a recent government meeting, community leaders highlighted the pressing issue of child safety, particularly in relation to human trafficking. Sheriff Barry Riley is set to address the community at an upcoming event aimed at raising awareness about the dangers children face today, especially those aged 11 to 14.

The meeting discussed a successful event held the previous Saturday, featuring a national speaker, Christy Sexton, who emphasized the need for increased vigilance among parents and guardians. Sexton pointed out that the stereotype of abduction often portrayed in media does not capture the broader and more insidious threats posed by social media and the availability of technology to children.

Lebanon is taking proactive steps to address these concerns, with seven local churches and at least 13 businesses sponsoring an awareness walk scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 AM. Participants can register online or on-site, with options for wristbands and t-shirts available for purchase. The event aims to foster community support and engagement in tackling issues that affect families and children.

Community leaders expressed their enthusiasm for the event, encouraging residents to participate and show their commitment to safeguarding the youth. The meeting concluded with a call for unity in making Lebanon a safer place for all families.
