Sedgwick County honors local heroes including Ron Holt and disaster relief champion Catherine Shreve

The Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners meeting on December 12, 2024, was notably delayed to honor local heroes at a tribute event. Commissioners attended the ceremony, where they recognized individuals for their extraordinary contributions to the community and acts of bravery.

Among the honorees was Catherine Shreve, a disaster relief hero from the 22nd Air Refueling Wing, who provided critical care during an air show. The event also celebrated James and Linda Parker, who have collectively donated an impressive 163 gallons of blood across all 50 states, earning them the title of "Gift of Life Heroes."

Lieutenant Colby Welch from the Wichita Fire Department received the Public Servant Award for his unwavering support during emergencies. The meeting highlighted several other heroes, including Kendrick Jordan, Heaton Bryant, Fabrice Lucerne, and Bridal Doan, who rescued a man from a creek after a vehicle crash, and Pedro Maldonado, who saved a young boy's life during a baseball game.

The pinnacle of the tribute was the Lifetime Hero Award presented to Ron Holt, Sedgwick County's assistant county manager and project director for the Entrust Bank Arena. His recognition underscored the county's commitment to honoring those who make significant contributions to public safety and community well-being.

The meeting concluded with a heartfelt acknowledgment of all the heroes, reinforcing the importance of community service and bravery in Sedgwick County.
