Residents of Chicopee voiced their concerns during the recent HR & Public Safety Committee meeting, highlighting issues of safety and community respect that have escalated in their neighborhoods. Steven Bognar, a homeowner on Roth Avenue, shared his frustrations about unruly behavior from local youths, including littering, vandalism, and reckless driving. He described a troubling environment where children emulate negative behaviors, leading to a decline in neighborhood safety and respect for property.

Bognar emphasized that the increase in disruptive activities, such as street racing and vandalism, has made it difficult for families to enjoy their homes. He recounted a recent incident where his house was egged, prompting him to invest in security measures to protect his property. He expressed concern that if these issues persist, he and his wife may reconsider their decision to stay in Chicopee as they plan to expand their family.

The meeting also featured Mary Marje, a long-time resident of Hamill Street, who echoed Bognar's sentiments. She pointed out the dangerous intersection of Dale Street and Roth Avenue, which has seen a rise in accidents, further underscoring the need for community safety measures.

Both residents called on the city council to take action, suggesting solutions such as speed bumps, increased police patrols, and fines to restore order and safety in their neighborhoods.
