Coon Rapids is gearing up for a festive celebration as the city prepares for its annual tree lighting event on Saturday, December 14th. The event, which has grown significantly since its inception three years ago, will take place next to the Coon Rapids Ice Center from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM, culminating in a spectacular countdown at 5:30 PM when the tree lights will be illuminated alongside a fireworks display.

This year’s festivities promise to be family-friendly and free of charge, with activities including live music, a visit from Santa, and various children's activities such as ornament making and writing letters to Santa. Community volunteers, particularly from the Community Strength Foundation, have played a crucial role in organizing the event, ensuring that families can enjoy the evening without any costs.

In addition to the holiday cheer, the city council discussed ongoing recruitment for various city commissions, including sustainability and planning commissions, following recent elections.
