The Nantucket School Committee meeting on December 3, 2024, highlighted several key updates and events from the school community, showcasing a vibrant array of student activities and achievements.

One of the notable announcements was the postponement of the drama club's staged reading, originally scheduled for this month, now set to take place in the spring. This change allows for better preparation and participation from students.

In sports, the annual powder puff football tournament saw the senior class triumph over the juniors with a score of 22 to 8 on November 20. Additionally, the varsity football team celebrated a significant victory against Martha's Vineyard at Fenway Park during the annual Island Cup, which included performances from the school's select chorus, cheerleading team, and pep band.

The Spanish club recently enjoyed an educational trip to Boston, visiting the Museum of Fine Arts and the Boston Public Library on November 22 and 23. Meanwhile, the select chorus, known as the Accidentals and Naturals, has a busy schedule ahead, including performances at the tree lighting ceremony and a downtown event on December 16. They are also preparing for their annual dessert cabaret fundraiser, which will support their upcoming trip to New York City in April.

As winter sports commenced, the first day of practices for boys and girls basketball, swim and dive, boys ice hockey, and indoor track and field took place. However, it was noted that there would be no varsity or JV girls hockey team this year due to insufficient sign-ups.

Looking ahead, the high school will host its December chorus and band concert on December 11, and the senior class is gearing up for their December Delight fundraiser on December 14, aimed at covering graduation and senior ball expenses.
