During a recent government meeting, the Scambia County Fire Rescue honored the legacy of Lieutenant Terrell Jackson by posthumously awarding him the Medal of Valor. This prestigious accolade is reserved for firefighters who demonstrate exceptional bravery and commitment, often at great personal risk. The award is automatically conferred upon those who lose their lives in the line of duty, underscoring the ultimate sacrifice made by Jackson, who passed away on January 9, 2023.
Lieutenant Jackson's career began in 2007 as a volunteer firefighter with the Ferry Pass Volunteer Fire Department. He transitioned to a full-time role in 2013 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2021, recognized for his dedication, mentorship, and leadership within the department. His contributions to the firefighting community were celebrated during the ceremony, where his family was present to receive the award.
In addition to the Medal of Valor, the meeting also featured the presentation of six distinguished individual awards, nominated by peers and representing some of the highest honors within the fire service. Representative Salzman contributed certificates of recognition for all award recipients, further acknowledging their exemplary service.
