North Brookfield plans festive New Year's Eve celebration with community activities and bonfire

North Brookfield is gearing up for its inaugural New Year's Eve celebration, "First Night Out," set to take place on December 31 from 2 PM to 6 PM. The event, organized by the Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with the Cultural Council, promises a festive atmosphere with various activities and local business participation.

Participants will kick off the celebration at Town Hall, where they will receive light-up wands and a scavenger hunt map. The event features a trivia contest with prizes, and attendees can explore several local venues offering snacks, drinks, and games. Notable locations include Saint Joseph's Church, which will host sand art activities, and the Harrah Apartments, where guests can enjoy indoor games like corn hole and Yahtzee.

Local businesses such as Shamans and Jars and Dragon Stones will also be open, providing refreshments and a warm welcome. The historical museum will offer a scavenger hunt, encouraging visitors to take photos at various landmarks for prizes. Additionally, the Episcopal Church will serve snacks, and the Congregational Church is working on an art show.

A highlight of the evening will be a bonfire at the common from 5 PM to 6 PM, accompanied by music and food from the Long Branch hot dog truck. This community-centric event aims to foster local engagement and provide a fun, family-friendly atmosphere as residents ring in the New Year.

In other meeting discussions, the Board of Selectmen certified the completion of a $557,361 grant for housing rehabilitation, which was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They also approved a cleaning service for the Senior Center at a cost of $200 per month, ensuring the facility remains well-maintained for community use.
