Centerville Schools celebrates 2023 achievements with five-star rating and top rankings

The Centerville Board of Education meeting on December 16, 2024, highlighted the district's annual quality profile, showcasing significant achievements from the previous school year. Sarah Swan, the district's community relations specialist, presented a summary of accomplishments tied to the district's strategic plan, emphasizing the commitment to student and staff success.

Centerville City Schools welcomed 8,382 students and nearly 1,100 staff members across 13 school buildings. The district received an impressive overall rating of five stars on the 2023-2024 Ohio score report card, the highest possible rating. Centerville High School (CHS) was recognized for its academic excellence, ranking in the top 10% of public high schools nationwide and exceeding state averages in graduation and college completion rates.

Swan noted a 28% increase in AP course enrollment at CHS over the past five years, alongside a 32% rise in the number of AP exams administered. The district also offered 19 career education programs in partnership with Kettering and Oakwood, addressing workforce needs in high-demand fields. Notably, over half of state test results from students were categorized as accomplished or advanced, surpassing state proficiency rates.

The meeting also addressed the district's commitment to diversity and inclusion, with 29% of students identifying as part of a minority ethnic group and a significant increase in English learners. The district has implemented various initiatives, including college and career events and workshops, to support all students and families.

Swan concluded by thanking the staff, students, parents, and community for their support in fostering quality education. The board discussed the possibility of providing hard copies of the quality profile to enhance communication with the community, particularly for those who may not access digital formats.
