Port Isabel Christmas parade thrives despite rain with impressive floats and community spirit

The South Padre Island City Council meeting on December 18, 2024, celebrated the success of the recent Christmas parade, despite challenging weather conditions. Council members expressed gratitude for the community's resilience, noting that participants and spectators braved the rain to enjoy the festivities.

The parade showcased impressive floats, with the Port Isabel Early College High School Silver Bells taking first place among specialty units. The Ace Carriga cheerleaders and Los Coaches Bridal School cheerleaders followed closely in second and third places, respectively. In the float competition, the Upper Deck's "Gingerbread Lane" won first place, while BLS Kites' "Mystical Forest" secured second. A tie for third place was awarded to Sea Turtle Inc. and Greig Elementary.

Council members highlighted the contributions of various city departments and volunteers, emphasizing the teamwork that made the event possible. Ocean Rescue emerged as the top city department float, marking a notable upset against the Shoreline department.

In addition to the parade updates, the council discussed upcoming presentations and public service announcements. Councilman Ken Meaders, recently elected to the Cameron County Appraisal District, encouraged residents with property tax concerns to reach out to him directly.

The meeting concluded with the approval of the consent agenda, ensuring the council's ongoing commitment to community engagement and service. The council looks forward to next year's parade, eager to build on this year's success.
