Lebanon County is set to enhance its community facilities with the development of a new multipurpose expo center, following discussions at the Lebanon County Commissioner Meeting on December 19, 2024. The proposed facility aims to support agricultural events while also attracting a variety of other gatherings, including conventions and seminars.

The new expo center will feature a large open space, essential for accommodating significant agricultural equipment and events that require ample room. This development is particularly timely, as it will provide necessary infrastructure for regional maintenance seminars hosted by major farm equipment manufacturers like John Deere and New Holland. The facility will also include restrooms, addressing a critical need for visitors.

Commissioners emphasized the importance of this project not only for agricultural purposes but also as a designated emergency evacuation shelter. The additional 40,000 square feet will increase the county's capacity to respond to emergencies, serving as a staging area during crises.

Funding for the expo center is primarily sourced from a $4 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RAC) grant, with additional support from a $500,000 Keystone Community Grant. The county is also exploring further funding opportunities through the Local Share Account (LSA) program.

Parking has been a concern during large events, and plans are in place to expand parking capacity to accommodate increased attendance. The commissioners noted that the facility's design will include additional parking areas, ensuring that visitors can access the center comfortably during peak events, such as the county fair.

The project is expected to break ground in the spring of 2025, pending final approvals and preparations.
