During the recent Board of Education meeting on December 18, 2024, excitement filled the room as students shared their experiences from a recent trip to Honolulu. Board member Kate Matthews initiated the discussion, inviting students to perform and recount their journey, which was met with enthusiasm from attendees.

Matthews expressed her pride in the students, highlighting the positive feedback they received during their travels. "Everywhere we went, Ossining was complimented for the amazing attitude, contribution, and overall optimism of our students," she said, emphasizing the pride the community can take in its youth.

The trip, made possible through community support and funding from the Bell Equity Fund, showcased not only the students' talents but also the collaborative efforts of educators and local organizations. Matthews thanked the board and the community for their backing, which allowed the trip to happen despite initial doubts about logistics.

Additionally, chaperone Ron Whitehead shared that he utilized a grant from Austin Matters to bring new cameras and equipment, enabling students to document their experiences through video and photography. This initiative not only enriched the students' learning but also provided a platform for them to share their journey with the community.
