The November 20, 2024, Board Meeting in New Jersey highlighted a series of impressive achievements by local high school sports teams, alongside significant community initiatives.

The boys' soccer team capped off their season with a strong performance, finishing at 4-9 and reaching the sectional semi-finals against Middlesex. The girls' soccer team concluded their season at 7-11, while the girls' volleyball team ended at 9-12. The football team wrapped up their season with a record of 1-8, facing North Plainfield in their final match. Excitement is building as the boys' basketball team prepares for their season opener on November 25, and the girls' basketball team held their interest meeting, with their first match scheduled for December 14.

In addition to sports, the meeting also covered important school events. A successful blood drive was organized by the New York Blood Center and the school's blood donation committee. The school recently held a mock election, allowing students to engage in the voting process. Notably, alumni Alvaro and Sean shared their experiences from the 2000 Hall fire, promoting awareness and education among seniors.

The meeting also announced the return of the school-wide tutoring network, aimed at enhancing student support. The FAFSA application for financial aid was released early, providing students with a head start on their post-graduation planning. Additionally, the Balbrook PTO hosted a designer bag bingo event to raise funds for the class of 2025.

Looking ahead, Mount Vernon High School is collaborating with local organizations to host a Thanksgiving food giveaway on November 23, demonstrating a commitment to community support during the holiday season.
