Snowflake High School mourns loss of two students amid rising concerns over suicide and fentanyl

The Arizona State Legislature convened for a House Floor Session on January 14, 2025, addressing several key agenda items and acknowledging recent tragedies within the community.

The session began with a moment of silence led by Representative Blackman, honoring two students from Snowflake High School who recently lost their lives—one due to suicide and the other from fentanyl. This somber acknowledgment set a reflective tone for the proceedings.

Following the moment of silence, the House moved into the second reading of numerous bills, including HP 2001 through HP 2077. The clerk was instructed to record the actions of the House regarding these bills, indicating a busy legislative agenda ahead.

Several committee meetings were announced, including the Commerce Committee, which will meet at 2 PM, and the House Education Committee, scheduled to convene after the floor session. Other committees, such as the Judiciary and Natural Resources, also outlined their meeting times, while some committees, including the Government and International Trade Committees, announced they would not meet this week.

As the session progressed, the House addressed a motion from the Senate requesting consent to adjourn for more than three days. The motion was approved, allowing the Senate to adjourn after completing its work on January 16, 2025, until January 22, 2025.

The session concluded with a motion to adjourn until January 15, 2025, at 1:15 PM, which was also passed without opposition. Overall, the meeting highlighted both the legislative priorities of the House and the community's need for support in light of recent losses.
