Chandler Care Center seeks holiday donations for 1300 local children in need

During the Chandler USD Governing Board meeting on December 11, 2024, board members emphasized the importance of community support during the holiday season, particularly for local families in need. The Chandler Care Center is seeking toy and gift card donations to assist over 1,300 children registered for holiday assistance. Donations of unwrapped gifts or gift cards valued at $10 to $20 are encouraged and can be dropped off at the care center by December 16.

In addition to holiday support, the board highlighted the care center's immunization clinic, which offers free flu vaccines to anyone over six months of age, regardless of insurance status. This initiative aims to promote herd immunity and keep classrooms healthy during flu season.

Board member Miss Serrano echoed the sentiments of fellow board member Miss Davis, stressing that student success extends beyond academics. She noted that vulnerable students often face basic needs that hinder their academic performance. The district's commitment to supporting the whole child through collaboration with community partners was underscored as essential for helping students reach their full potential.

The meeting also touched on the importance of tax credit donations, encouraging community members to contribute before the end of the year to maximize their impact. Board members reflected on their participation in the care center's Thanksgiving food distribution, praising the involvement of student volunteers and the positive impact of community engagement.
