The South Huntington Union Free School District Board of Education meeting held on January 8, 2025, showcased a vibrant celebration of student creativity and collaboration. The meeting began with a presentation highlighting a year-long project involving all seven school buildings in the district, where each school will contribute a unique puzzle piece to create a collective artwork symbolizing unity and teamwork.
The project, directed by art teacher Miss Francowitz, who recently welcomed a baby girl, emphasizes the importance of each school’s role within the district. Students Nicholas Crocco, Lucy Savanas, and Cole Aussie from Cosmo shared their excitement about the project, explaining how over 500 students collaborated to design a checkerboard puzzle piece using their fingerprints. They noted the inclusion of teachers' fingerprints, reinforcing the theme of community involvement. Their piece is designed to fit alongside Simpson’s puzzle piece, which features maroon colors and South Huntington-themed drawings.
Following this presentation, Miss Denorchia and her second-grade dual language students took the stage to share their "ABCs of Countrywood and South Huntington." The students highlighted various positive attributes of their school, such as "Amazing" teachers and the importance of "Teamwork." Their performance concluded with a spirited affirmation of their school spirit, encapsulating the essence of the district's collaborative efforts.
The meeting then transitioned to a curriculum presentation, indicating a focus on educational development and future initiatives. The board encouraged attendees to stay for further discussions, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to enhancing the educational environment within the district. Overall, the meeting underscored the district's dedication to fostering a cohesive and supportive community through creative projects and collaborative learning.
