Taunton Public Schools celebrated significant academic achievements during the recent School Committee meeting on January 8, 2024. Superintendent announced that three high school seniors from Taunton High School, Taunton Alternative High School, and Taunton Public Virtual Academy each received a $1,000 scholarship as part of the Francis W. Gallacher Memorial Award. This recognition highlights the dedication and hard work of students within the South Coast Educational Collaborative.
Natalie Duncan, the top-ranked student at Taunton High School, was honored for her impressive academic record, which includes 11 Advanced Placement courses and AP Scholar with Distinction honors. Evelyn Miller, a standout at Taunton Alternative High School, maintains a GPA of 3.35 while balancing work and school responsibilities. Mary Wallace, from the Virtual Academy, has excelled in her self-directed learning environment, showcasing her passion for literature.

Subscribe for Free In addition to these scholarships, the meeting highlighted the outstanding performance of 13 students who achieved perfect scores on the June MCAS exams across various grade levels. This accomplishment reflects the high educational standards and support provided by Taunton Public Schools. Notable students include Maya Emanova, who scored perfectly in both math and science, and several others from elementary to high school.
The meeting also recognized Lisa Dermody, a math teacher at Taunton High School, who was selected as one of 50 teachers nationwide to participate in the New York City Marathon. Her achievement not only showcases her athleticism but also serves as an inspiration for students to pursue a well-rounded lifestyle.
