Quincy students shine in Christmas poster contest and North Quincy Band wins top awards

The Quincy School Committee meeting on December 11, 2024, highlighted several notable achievements among students and upcoming events within the district.

The meeting began with congratulations to the winners of the annual Quincy Sun Christmas poster contest. Students from grades 1 to 5 were recognized for their artistic talents, with Eunice Wu from Walliston taking first place in grade 1, and Prajna Singh from Clifford Marshall winning first prize in grades 4 to 5. Their artwork will be displayed in the windows of the Quincy Sun offices, and they participated in the recent Quincy Christmas parade.

The North Quincy Band and Color Guard also received accolades, having won multiple awards at the Christmas parade, including best percussion and best overall band for the fourth consecutive year, achieving a historic score of 97.4. The committee expressed pride in the band’s continued success and thanked their instructors for their dedication.

In academic achievements, the North Quincy High School quiz show team advanced to the next round of competition, scheduled for January 25, 2025. Additionally, the robotics team from local middle schools performed well at a recent regional qualifier, with the Point Webster Estrella team finishing in the top 10 and winning first place in core values.

Looking ahead, the meeting outlined upcoming events, including performances of "Little Women" by North Quincy High School's drama club and winter concerts across all schools. A parent academy is also set for January 7, 2025, to discuss behavioral health resources available to families.

The meeting concluded with a report on the superintendent's evaluation, where he received an overall rating of proficient, with exemplary ratings in several areas. The committee will discuss new goals for the 2024-2025 school year at the next Teaching and Learning Subcommittee meeting on January 29, 2025.
