Northland Arboretum unveils ambitious plans for inclusive recreation and major bike park expansion

Trevor Pumnia, representing the Northland Arboretum, expressed gratitude for the council's support in securing regional designation, which is crucial for obtaining state funding for infrastructure projects. Pumnia detailed the arboretum's impressive growth, noting an increase in their operating budget from approximately $40,000 to $570,000 over the past year. He emphasized the importance of community engagement, sharing that local residents have requested more recreational activities and improved infrastructure.

Key projects discussed included the development of an Inclusive Nature Playscape, which features ADA-compliant facilities, and a new bike park that aims to be one of the largest in the Midwest. Pumnia also highlighted the arboretum's commitment to sustainability and community service, mentioning the donation of fresh produce to residents facing food insecurity.

Following Pumnia's presentation, Bill Satri from Brainerd Community Action shared updates on community events and initiatives. He highlighted the success of various programs, including the formation of new neighborhood associations and the continuation of popular events like the Flapjack Festival and the Saint Patrick's Day parade. Satri emphasized the importance of fostering community connections and the positive impact of their Community Empowerment Fund.
