Clinton Elementary students shine at Literacy Launch event with inspiring speeches

The Massachusetts Literacy Launch event held on September 19, 2024, showcased the achievements of students and the commitment of educators at Clinton Elementary School. The meeting began with an introduction by Miss Silvio, who expressed pride in the school and its dedication to fostering a positive learning environment.

Miss Silvio highlighted the hard work of both students and staff, emphasizing their daily efforts to create a supportive educational atmosphere. She then introduced two confident fourth-grade students, Emily Brunell and Femi Abuto, who shared their personal experiences with the literacy program, Appleseed.

Femi Abuto spoke first, detailing how Appleseed helped him develop his reading skills. He shared his enjoyment of learning sounds and using decodable readers, which aided his reading fluency. Femi expressed his aspiration to inspire future generations about the importance of reading, reflecting on his journey from struggling with words to now enjoying reading in his spare time.

Following Femi, Emily Brunell also addressed the audience, reinforcing the positive impact of the literacy program on her learning experience. Both students received applause for their articulate speeches, demonstrating the effectiveness of the literacy initiatives in Massachusetts.
