Sierra Madre fire containment reaches 35 percent as 15 fatalities reported and 7000 structures damaged

In a recent briefing on the ongoing Eaton Fire, city officials provided critical updates that underscore the significant impact of the blaze on the Sierra Madre community. As of January 14, 2025, the fire is currently 35% contained, having scorched over 14,000 acres and affecting more than 7,000 structures across the region.

For Sierra Madre specifically, the fire has impacted 54 structures, with 15 of those completely destroyed, including main buildings and accessory dwelling units (ADUs). Fortunately, there have been no reported fatalities in Sierra Madre, although the overall incident has tragically claimed 15 lives.

The scale of the firefighting effort is substantial, with 3,235 personnel deployed to combat the flames. This includes 316 engines, 51 hand crews, 21 bulldozers, 88 water tenders, and 16 helicopters actively working to contain the fire and protect the community.
