The Fort Thomas Independent School District celebrated significant achievements at its recent Board of Education meeting, highlighting the accomplishments of both the Highlands Varsity Dance Team and the Navigo Scholars program.
The meeting opened with a proud moment for the Highlands Varsity Dance Team, which recently clinched two state championships in the pom and hip-hop divisions. Coach Ashley Rubleski praised the dedication of her team, noting that they practice year-round, balancing performances at home football and basketball games with rigorous competition schedules. The team is now preparing for a national competition in Orlando, scheduled for mid-February, where they aim to maintain their undefeated status in certain divisions.
In addition to the dance team's success, the meeting also recognized five students selected as Navigo Scholars for the spring semester. This program, now part of Children Inc., allows students to gain hands-on experience through internships with local businesses. The scholars shared their aspirations, with interests ranging from trades to education and entrepreneurship. Their proactive approach at such a young age was commended by board members, emphasizing the importance of early career exploration.
The meeting also featured a presentation from the Woodfill Student Lighthouse Team, which is working towards lighthouse certification as part of the Leader in Me program. The students discussed their initiatives to enhance school culture, including a new student welcome program and a suggestion box to gather ideas from their peers. Their efforts aim to create a positive environment and recognize outstanding staff contributions.
As the meeting concluded, the board expressed pride in the students' achievements and their commitment to leadership and community engagement. The recognition of these programs and students underscores the district's focus on fostering talent and preparing students for future success.
