Kyle residents raise alarm over increasing wild hog damage amid construction expansion

In the heart of Kyle City, a pressing issue has emerged, capturing the attention of local officials and residents alike. During the recent city council meeting on December 12, 2024, concerns were raised about the increasing damage caused by feral hogs in the area. A resident described the alarming transformation of once lush grasslands into barren patches of loose soil, a change that has unfolded over the past six months.

The resident pointed to several factors contributing to this problem, including new construction projects in the northwest and the expansion of nearby subdivisions. Additionally, the presence of adjacent farmland has attracted hogs, which are believed to be migrating into the city. The situation is exacerbated by reports of baiting, with corn and pumpkins found scattered in areas where the hogs are active. Despite reaching out to local authorities, including the city police and the game warden, the resident expressed frustration over the lack of immediate action.

As the damage escalates, the resident urged the council to consider alternative solutions beyond traditional trapping methods. They highlighted a new toxicant endorsed by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, suggesting it could be a safer and more effective approach to managing the feral hog population.
