Pomona activist launches World Peace Now initiative to combat crime in San Fernando

Concerns over safety and community development took center stage at the San Fernando City Council meeting on January 6, 2025. Residents voiced strong opposition to a proposed building project on North Grand Boulevard, citing the potential dangers it poses to local schoolchildren. One speaker highlighted the historical significance of the boulevard, questioning the city’s decision to permit construction in an area already bustling with educational institutions.

Gustavo Ramirez, a community advocate from Pomona, also addressed the council, expressing his commitment to fostering peace and collaboration between Pomona and San Fernando. He introduced his organization, World Peace Now, which aims to address pressing social issues such as crime and substance abuse in their communities. Ramirez emphasized the need for safe, vibrant neighborhoods and invited council members and residents to participate in an upcoming event on January 18, coinciding with Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, to promote community unity and well-being.

The discussions underscored a growing concern among residents about urban development and its impact on safety, particularly for children. As the council considers the proposed building, the community remains engaged and vocal about their priorities for a safe and thriving San Fernando.
