Martin County schools celebrate record 92% graduation rate and innovative media center launch

The Martin County School Board convened on December 12, 2024, to discuss significant developments within the district, including updates on graduation rates and innovative educational projects. The meeting began with a presentation highlighting a year-long project driven by students, faculty, and community members aimed at enhancing the district's media center into a modern innovation center. This transformation includes the introduction of state-of-the-art equipment such as 3D printers, sewing machines, and a laser cutter, all designed to foster creativity and collaboration among students.

Superintendent updates revealed that the district achieved a graduation rate of 92%, surpassing the state average of 89.7%. This marks the highest graduation rate since the 2020-2021 school year. Individual high schools also reported improvements, with Jensen Beach High School increasing from 97% to 98%, Martin County High School from 92.8% to 96%, and South Fork High School from 88.6% to 92.7%. Despite this success, the superintendent emphasized the need for continued efforts to further enhance graduation rates.

The meeting transitioned to public comments, where educators Julie Roberts and Jean Wright from Warfield Elementary expressed their gratitude for the support they receive from the school board. They shared their experiences co-teaching a class for students with exceptionalities, highlighting the progress their students have made academically and socially.
