Chesterfield County is making significant strides in affordable housing development, as highlighted during the recent Board of Supervisors meeting on January 22, 2025. The Community Enhancement Department provided an update on various housing projects, emphasizing the county's commitment to addressing housing needs in the region.

The funding has facilitated the creation of new housing units, including mobile manufactured homes, rental properties, and for-sale units. Notably, the county has managed to keep costs low, averaging less than $8,000 per unit, while still addressing construction inflation challenges.
A highlight of the update was the progress on the Ettrick Landing project, which has transformed the site of the former Ettrick Annex School into a 10-unit subdivision. This project, developed in collaboration with the Maggie Walker Community Land Trust and local citizens, has already seen seven homes sold at an affordable price of $160,000 each. These homes are designed to be accessible and energy-efficient, catering to families earning around 60% of the median income.
As the county prepares for a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the spring, officials expressed optimism about the positive impact these housing initiatives will have on the community. The ongoing efforts reflect Chesterfield County's dedication to enhancing the quality of life for its residents through sustainable and affordable housing solutions.
