A significant step towards renewable energy was taken at the San Diego Community Power (SDCP) Board of Directors meeting on January 23, 2025, with the approval of a power purchase agreement with Lumenia California DevCo 4 LLC. This agreement marks a pivotal moment as it aims to establish a 1.7 megawatt solar project at the Chula Vista Center, primarily utilizing rooftop solar and solar canopies.
The project is part of the SDCP's Solar Advantage Program, which is designed to provide low-income residents with access to 100% renewable energy at discounted rates. The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) funds this initiative, which will subsidize procurement costs and offer a 20% discount on electricity bills for qualifying customers. If approved, this project is expected to benefit over 750 households in the community.
