La Grange residents demand action on dangerous potholes and reckless driving in community

Concerns over alley safety and traffic violations dominated the La Grange Village Board meeting on June 12, 2023, as residents voiced urgent issues affecting their community.

A resident, advocating for a special needs woman living on South La Grange Road, highlighted the perilous condition of the alley behind her home, riddled with potholes that pose risks during heavy rainfall. Despite multiple requests for repairs since March, the resident reported a lack of communication from the Public Works Department, stating, “This is not acceptable.” Village officials acknowledged the issue, with President Kukler promising to investigate and improve communication regarding repairs.

Traffic safety also emerged as a critical topic, with resident Randy Valenta expressing frustration over rampant traffic law violations in downtown La Grange. He noted illegal left turns and aggressive driving, particularly at busy intersections, creating hazardous conditions for pedestrians, especially children. Valenta urged the village to enhance traffic law enforcement to ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike, emphasizing the need for a community that feels secure and welcoming.
